30 Day Challenge: Day 19, A Talent of yours

Hmmm...I think I'm going to have as much trouble with this as my friend Melanie at Complete in Thee. This is really hard, because we feel like as Christians we are to be humble, and not sing our own praises. However, you can also look at it, as God gave you the ability and by talking about it, you can give Him the glory for it. Because after all He's the one who gave you that talent...

So...having said that I believe God has given me the ability to sing. Now, am I as good as Andrea Bocelli? No way! Am I as good as Josh Groban? No! But I think I have a little bit of talent...and I can take no credit for it. God made me the way I am, and I can only do my best to glorify Him with the talents he has given me.

30 Day Challenge: Day 18, A Time when you felt passionate and alive

Probably the time I feel the most passionate and alive is when I'm talking to someone about the Lord, or reading my bible.

When I'm talking to someone about God, and I can feel that God is directing my words...sometimes God actually teaches me things about himself while I'm talking to people about Him. I'll find myself saying things I didn't even know I knew...God truly is amazing. He works in our lives in ways we can't even fathom. It's at times like this where I feel the Holy Spirit working in my life, that I truly feel passionate and alive.

Also when reading my bible, and when I'm grasping and understanding what I'm reading, I feel passionate and alive. Again I think it's for the same reasons that I feel passionate and alive when talking to people about God. The Holy Spirit is helping me to understand what I read, and I'm learning...I truly feel passionate and alive when this happens.

Also, there's another thing that makes me feeling passionate and alive. It's when I'm singing. Not just a solo, but mostly when I'm singing in a big choir. Being just one voice among many singing...I can't put it into words...but it definitely makes me feel passionate and alive. I miss doing it so much...

30 Day Challenge: Day 16, A song that makes you cry

Again, this one is a hard one. I honestly can't think of a specific song at this time. I've always been a sucker for a good sad country song. But I can't think of any specific one that makes me cry when I hear it.

Probably the only song I can think of that last made me almost cry was the last verse to "In the Bleak Midwinter":

What can I give him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
if I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
yet what I can I give him: give my heart.
This song just reminds me of my unwillingness to give God my all. I so often allow my own fears of rejection, and fear of getting hurt to keep me from giving my all to God. I mean I know as this song states, we can give him our hearts, and if we are saved we have done that. But I can't help but think of another possible line to this song "What can I give him? Give him all my life." If only that were the prayer of all of our hearts. That we would live our lives fully surrendered and willing to go, and do whatever God calls us to do.

30 Day Challenge: Day 15, A Person you admire

Hmmm...I've been thinking about this one for a couple of days now...since I got behind on these while my ship was underway.

I could talk about my parents, because out of all the people I admire, I definitely admire them the most. But I figured that would be kind of predictable. Most people talk about their parents on this day...so I wanted to write about someone different.

I admire my aunt Terri. She is an amazing woman. I'm not sure how many years ago, but a while back they had a flood in their area that completely destroyed everything on the first floor of their house. She rebuilt and remodeled her house while raising her kids. She had three biological kids, and 5 adopted kids, and she's doing and has done an amazing job raising them. Not only all that, but she has an amazing faith in God. She's also been separated from my Uncle for quite a few years, and again still manages to raise 5 kids who are still at home. She would credit her ability to do all of this to God. I thank the Lord for my Aunt Terri, and I pray for her often.

Here's a picture of me with her and my cousin DJ (the one with the black hat, and white sunglasses), and 4 of her adopted kids (also my cousins of course):

30 Day Challenge: Day 14, A vacation you would like to take

My dream vacation would be a trip across Europe. I would like to say I have it all mapped out...for example, where I would visit first, how I would get there...but I haven't gone that in depth. But I can tell you all the countries I would like to visit...

I would like to visit Germany:

The main reason I want to visit Germany is because I'm either German, Swiss, or Swiss German on my Dad's side...I'm not completely sure. It's truly a beautiful country, and I would love to be able to spend some time traveling around such an amazing country.

Next I would love to visit Switzerland:

I would love to visit Switzerland, for much the same reason I would love to visit Germany. Although I would love to go hiking, in the Alps...they are so beautiful to me...

Next I would love to visit Ireland:

The main reason I would love to go to Ireland, is because that is where my Mom's side of the family is from. And besides...who isn't intrigued by this beautiful island?

And lastly I would love to visit Italy:

Unlike the other countries mentioned, that I wanted to visit mainly for family heritage reasons, Italy is not one of them. I'm not in the least bit Italian, at least not that I know of. Anyways...Italy is such an amazing country...so rich in history. Probably some of my favorite sites to visit are those that have historical value. Well, you cant get much more historical than Italy. Rome was at one time the center of the known world...who wouldn't want to visit an amazing place like that?

Well, those are all the main European countries I would love to visit. Although I would love to be able to visit every single country in Europe, these are the main ones...

30 Day Challenge: Day 13, A Guilty Pleasure

I don't know if you've ever had one of these...but if you haven't, you are missing out! These things are delicious! We have them on the vending machines on the ship, and I get at least one each day when they aren't out of them. I've actually been known to get mad at the people who fill the vending machines when they put these things in the machines, because when they're in there, I can't resist them! It's unhealthy for me...but so good...

I've only met a handful of people who don't like these things...

It would be a huge mistake on my part to get one of these big boxes...I'm not a diabetic, but I think if I got one of these, I'd probably end up in a diabetic coma from eating the whole box in one sitting...

30 Day Challenge: Day12, A song that you want played at your wedding

This isn't really a song I want played, but it's a song I would like to sing to my wife for the wedding. Some of you may know it. It's called "Yours Forever" and it was written by Ron Hamilton.

When the sun is shining bright,
I'll be yours forever!
When you face the darkest night,

We will face it together.

Through the good times I'll be there,

Clinging warmly to your hand.
When there's no one else to care,
I'll be there to understand.

*****

(Chorus)
Yours forever, Only yours,
I'll be yours forever!
Yours forever, Only yours,

God has brought us together.

On the wings of love you came,
Then you taught me how to fly.
Through the years it will be the same,

I'll be Yours Forever.

*****

When I look into your eyes,
I can see us together.
There will be no sad goodbyes,
As our love blossoms sweeter.

There's a place inside my heart
I know only you can fill.
Until death we'll never part.
You're the keeper of my heart.

This picture was taken back in the day when my family lived in PA. I think I'm around 3 or 4 years old in this picture.

This one was taken back in the 5th grade...it was my first year in public school. I was portraying Paul Rever...I believe I'm actually reading the poem Paul Revere's Ride in this picture.

30 Day Challenge: Day 9, A Photo you took

This is probably a photo I've taken that I'm the most proud of. I definitely don't consider myself to be a photographer, but once and I while I'll snap a decent picture. I took this one a little over a year ago. I went for a walk here in town, and I saw this group of sparrows in the grass in the park, and I managed to get some good pictures of them. Oh, and this was not too long after the Cherry Blossom festival here in Japan. You notice the white petals on the ground? This pic also makes me think of the passage of scripture:

But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him! Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Luke 12:5-7

Since I mentioned the Cherry Blossom festival, I can't help but share some pics from that as well...because I'm pretty sure I haven't posted pictures of it in the past...

30 Day Challenge: Day 8, A Thank you letter to someone who has changed your life...

God doesn't give us the people we want, He gives us the people we need - to help us, to hurt us, to leave us, to LOVE us, & to make us the people we are today.
-Unknown

Dear Everyone,

I was racking my brain trying to think of someone who has changed my life, and I couldn't pick just one.

I came to the realization, that everyone I have come in contact with in my life has changed it it some way. I believe that everyone is put in your life for a reason, and we can learn something from every single one of them. It's our choice how we let them affect us...whether they make us a stronger or weaker Christian. It's all in how we handle it.

So, I'd like to thank everyone I've come in contact with...in person, and even on my blog. You have all taught me things, and I thank you all so much for that!

In Him,
Jason

30 Day Challenge: Day 7, Five Things you Couldn't Live Without

1. The Triune God: If it were not for the sovereign God who created me, I surely wouldn't be here today. If it were not for Jesus Christ, and His death on the cross providing salvation for me, my life would be forfeit. And were it not for the Holy Spirit to give me strength to make it through the day...I don't even want to think about where I might be.

2. Water: Without water, I would just be pile of dust...

3. Food: I'm a big fan of food, but then I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't be. Without food I would be just skin and bones.

4. My Bible: It is from my Bible that I learned, and am learning more about my savior.

5. My Family: I love my family so much. I don't know where I'd be without their love and support...

30 Day Challenge: Day 6, A Moment You Wish You Could Relive

Hmmm...this one is really hard. I've been racking my brain for the last 10 minutes trying to think of one, and I honestly can't think of one. I mean, I can think of really good days, that I might want to relive...such as boot camp graduation, Music Man production Senior Year of High School, and so on. But to be honest, none of them are really amazing enough that I would want to go back and relive them. I can rack them up as good experiences, and thank God for them, but I really don't wan to do them over.

I guess probably in the future there may be things that I'll want to relive...such as my wedding day, holding my first child for the first time, and so on. But for now...I'm content to do the best I can each day to honor my Lord.

30 Day Challenge: Day 5, A Favorite Quote

My favorite quote I've actually already posted on my blog, but I'll post it again for this:

Stick with your work. Do not flinch because the lion roars; do not stop to stone the devil’s dogs; do not fool away your time chasing the devil’s rabbits. Do your work. Let liars lie, let sectarians quarrel, let critics malign, let enemies accuse, let the devil do his worst; but see to it nothing hinders you from fulfilling with joy the work God has given you. He has not commanded you to be admired or esteemed. He has never bidden you to defend your character. He has not set you at work to contradict falsehood about yourself which Satan’s or God’s servants may start to peddle, or to track down every rumor that threatens your reputation. If you do these things, you will do nothing else; you will be at work for yourself and not for the Lord. Keep at your work. Let your aim be as steady as a star. You may be assaulted, wronged, insulted, slandered, wounded and rejected, misunderstood, or assigned impure motives; you may be abused by foes, forsaken by friends, and despised and rejected of men. But see to it with steadfast determination, with unfaltering zeal, that you pursue the great purpose of your life and object of your being until at last you can say, "I have finished the work which Thou gavest me to do."

Stand By Me

When the storms of life are raging,
Stand by me (stand by me);
When the storms of life are raging,
Stand by me (stand by me);
When the world is tossing me
Like a ship upon the sea
Thou Who rulest wind and water,
Stand by me (stand by me).

In the midst of tribulation,
Stand by me (stand by me);
In the midst of tribulation,
Stand by me (stand by me);
When the hosts of hell assail,
And my strength begins to fail,
Thou Who never lost a battle,
Stand by me (stand by me).

In the midst of faults and failures,
Stand by me (stand by me);
In the midst of faults and failures,
Stand by me (stand by me);
When I do the best I can,
And my friends misunderstand,
Thou Who knowest all about me,
Stand by me (stand by me).

In the midst of persecution,
Stand by me (stand by me);
In the midst of persecution,
Stand by me (stand by me);
When my foes in battle array
Undertake to stop my way,
Thou Who sav├Ęd Paul and Silas,
Stand by me (stand by me).

When I’m growing old and feeble,
Stand by me (stand by me);
When I’m growing old and feeble,
Stand by me (stand by me);
When my life becomes a burden,
And I’m nearing chilly Jordan,
O Thou “Lily of the Valley,”
Stand by me (stand by me).

30 Day Challenge: Day 4, A Favorite Television Program

Well, to be honest...I hardly ever watch TV. There are really only two shows that I watch, and only one of them do I watch regularly.

The first one is the O'Reilly Factor:

I really like this show because Bill O'Reilly is no-nonsense when it comes to politics. He doesn't play word games with politicians. He expects to hear the truth from people, and he works really hard to get it. This is the show that I don't watch on a regular basis, but I do enjoy watching it when I do.

The show that I watch regularly is Sarah Palin's Alaska. I actually have a season pass on iTunes, so I download a new episode once a week.

I'm usually not a big fan of reality shows, but I really like this show. Not many people can say they've been to Alaska, so it's really neat to watch a show that can give you such an awesome glimpse into Alaska. It really is a beautiful state, and this show definitely brings it to life.

30 Day Challenge: Day 3, A Favorite Book

Alright, so as many of us Christians would all agree, our favorite book would definitely be the Bible. It is our source of truth in everything we go through in our lives. It is where we learn about God, the salvation He offers to us, and much much more. It is by far the greatest book ever written...

Second to the Bible, it's probably and even tie between More than a Carpenter (Josh and Sean McDowell) and The Pursuit of God (A. W. Tozer).

30 Day Challenge: Day 2, Favorite Movie

By far...currently my favorite movie would be How to Train Your Dragon. I mean I have a lot of movies that I really like...for example: Amazing Grace, The Sound of Music, Regarding Henry, Luther...etc, etc...but all of those movies I would get tired of watching if I watched them too many times in a row. How to Train Your Dragon is a movie I could watch over and over again and never get tired of it. It is funny, it's full of adventure, love, action...you name it this movie has it. I don't want to spoil the movie, but to me all those things I listed are enough to make this movie great. But there's a twist thrown in at the end that I have never seen done in an animated movie, that turns the movie from great...to phenomenal. Now this particular event might just be amazing to me because it has a special place in my heart because of something that happened in my family...but it might have the same affect on everyone...I'm not so sure.

Anyways...I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone. It's good clean fun for the whole family.

30 Day Challenge: Day 1, Favorite Song

Well, my favorite song used to be "Day by Day", and that still is one of my favorite songs, but lately I've found that the song "Oh Great God" has been more of my prayer in life. The words to the song express my desires to live for God, and I also really love the music for it as well.

If you want to listen to the song click here. This particular version is sung by Sovereign Grace Ministries...it's not my favorite version because it's a little more contemporary than I usually listen to, but you can hear how the song sounds by listening to this. I have two favorite versions...one is by Kevin Inafuku, and the other is by the Steve Pettit Evangelistic Team. Both can be found on iTunes actually.

O Great God

O great God of highest heaven
Occupy my lowly heart
Own it all and reign supreme
Conquer every rebel power
Let no vice or sin remain
That resists Your holy war
You have loved and purchased me
Make me Yours forevermore

I was blinded by my sin
Had no ears to hear Your voice
Did not know Your love within
Had no taste for heaven’s joys
Then Your Spirit gave me life
Opened up Your Word to me
Through the gospel of Your Son
Gave me endless hope and peace

Help me now to live a life
That’s dependent on Your grace
Keep my heart and guard my soul
From the evils that I face
You are worthy to be praised
With my every thought and deed
O great God of highest heaven
Glorify Your Name through me

He Looked Beyond My Fault and Saw My Need

Amazing grace shall always be my song of praise
For it was grace that bought my liberty
I do not know just why He came to love me so
He looked beyond my faults and saw my needs
***
I shall forever lift mine eyes to Calvary
To view the cross where Jesus died for me
How marvelous the grace that caught my falling soul
He looked beyond my fault and saw my needs
***
And for today I humbly seek Thy favor Lord
And ask that thou should smile on things I do
Then some those shifting sands of doubt all around me
But they shall not take my eyes from you
***
I shall forever lift mine eyes to Calvary
To view the cross where Jesus died for me
How marvelous the grace that caught my falling soul
He looked beyond my fault and saw my needs
