God's Word - The Only Source for Truth

I have heard much talk lately with people I know about different books that they are reading. One tells me that their book is good, the other tells me that that their book is good. One person will write one book, and another person will write a book that is bashing on the other book. I get so confused because both will tell me “It’s a really good book…you should read it.” Every time I know that the person had my best intentions at heart. They wanted to help me grow as a Christian, but I have come to a conclusion about this situation. Would you like to hear my conclusion? Yes? No? Well, I’m going to tell you anyway!

I’d much rather read the Bible. It is the only source of truth that I can depend on!

I would also like to say that I am very frustrated by these arguments I often hear about versions of the Bible. If I could I would rather go back to the old Greek and Hebrew Bibles and read from them directly, just so I could avoid all these arguments about versions. Sadly I cannot do this because I am neither fluent in Greek or Hebrew, and I probably never will. So I have to do the best with what I can with what knowledge I have.

I was going to at this point continue to rant about how I feel about this a little more…but then I realized that I would rather let Gods word speak for itself. I want to clarify something first before I close with some scripture. If any of you have ever given me a book, please don’t think I’m trying to say that I no longer want to receive books from you. I enjoy reading books, and I know that God also tells us to listen to Godly wisdom, I’m just trying to prove the point, that in the end, I would much rather read the whole truth found in Gods word.

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 (NASB)

For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.

I Thessalonians 2:13 (NASB)

Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.
Princes have persecuted me without a cause: but my heart standeth in awe of thy word. I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil. I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love. Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments. Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. LORD, I have hoped for thy salvation, and done thy commandments. My soul hath kept thy testimonies; and I love them exceedingly. I have kept thy precepts and thy testimonies: for all my ways are before thee.
Let my cry come near before thee, O LORD: give me understanding according to thy word. Let my supplication come before thee: deliver me according to thy word. My lips shall utter praise, when thou hast taught me thy statutes. My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness. Let thine hand help me; for I have chosen thy precepts. I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight. Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me. I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.
Psalm 119:160 - 176 (KJV)

:-)

Sorry--couldn't resist! Good post.

Pastor G
Jason,
Thanks for the good post! I love this part in 1 Thessalonians - "you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe." Thank you for the encouragement and great verses. :)
I miss you and I'm praying for you.
