Thoughts from my Devotions.

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!"

Romans 8:14 & 15

You know how when you are reading through the Bible, and one verse or passage just really jumps out to you as a very powerful passage? Well this verse really hit me hard when I was reading it the other day.

"For you have not received the spirit of slavery leading to fear again..." Wow! God did not and does not force us to serve Him. It is our choice. We make the decision to live our life for Him, or not. No one made us accept him. We came before the foot of the cross on our own.

"...but you have received the spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, 'Abba! Father!'" I like the fact that it says "...the spirit of adoption..." We weren't always the children of God. Christ provided us the way to have a fellowship with God, and we have been "adopted" into the family of God. We cried out to Him, "Abba! Father!" because He is our father! What a perfect example of what a father should be to us. All of us have earthly fathers, who did the best to raise us right, but they are imperfect men. We can look to our heavenly father, as the "perfect father!"

I hope and pray that this was an encouragement to you all!

I don't really bird watch very much anymore. I think it would be good to try and start back up again. Now I have a nice camera I cant take pics of them too!

Now my secret is out. I used to bird watch all the time. My mom and I used to go to this park when we lived and PA, and spend almost the whole day bird watching...I know...I'm a nerd...

Yes, it was an encouragement! Isn't it terrible how easy it is to choose slavery again when we're not actively walking with the Spirit? But He's still our Father and still forgives...so awesome!!
Jason, bird watching isn't for nerds! It is for those who truly appreciate God's creation. God is amazing and you can see that in every colorful bird He has made. Watching a bird in flight is wonderful to behold. My favorite to watch are the hummingbirds. So small! Have you ever seen a humming bird nest? Again, amazing! God's handiwork is glorious. And to think, He (as you said) is our Father. PTL!

That's probably one of the reasons why I love bird watching so much. The Birds are so beautiful! I even saw an indigo buntin one time. You should see those birds...talk about beautiful!

No, I can't say that I have ever seen a humming birds nest. That's definitely something I need to look for. I don't know if we have humming birds over here in Japan...

Don't worry about spoiling my secret...it's good for people do know it. I need to let more people see that side of me!

Isn't it great that we are given a choice? God does not force His gift of salvation on us. All we have to do is accept His gift of salvation and he becomes our Father just like you said. I think it's so comforting to view Him as that.
